After taking his final bow as a singer in Broadway musicals, Michael Jones set off to pursue his his dream of becoming a sports therapist. To start his new career off in the right direction, Michael enrolled in the Clinical Massage Therapy program at The Soma Institute.
Upon graduation, he found himself with the choice of two career opportunities: a massage therapist position with the Gottlieb Memorial Hospital Health and Fitness Center or a teaching position at The Soma Institute. Never one for compromise, Mike decided to choose both.
At the Gottlieb Health and Fitness Center, Michael practiced clinical, deep tissue, and sports massage. Once word spread about Michael's professional skills, he soon began working as a sports therapist for the Chicago Rush Arena Football Team, as well as the University of Illinois-Chicago Flames sports medicine team.
In addition to Michael's clinical practice at the Health and Fitness Center, he also coordinates Soma's partnership with the LaSalle Bank's Chicago Marathon. Each October, Soma students get the chance to practice their newfound sports and clinical massage therapy skills on top runners at this world-class marathon event.
Most recently, Michael helped develop a new sports massage modality, Performance Enhancement Massage in which he works with high-performance athletes both before and after workouts to reduce weakness and inflexibility, while increasing awareness, focus, speed and strength.
We are proud of Michael's ongoing work as a Soma instructors, and applaud the sports massage innovations he has contributed to the field of Clinical Massage therapy.
