It didn't take long after graduation for Heather O'Leary to apply her Clinical Massage Therapy training in one of Chicago's top hospitals.
Immediately after joining the staff at Swedish Covenant Hospital, the hospital asked her to explore more efficient ways to promote their newest offering: Patient Centered Care through Complementary and Alternative Medicine. After hearing Heather's recommendations, Swedish Covenant decided to create a dedicated Massage Therapy program, asking Heather to oversee the development of this new program while serving as the hospital's first full-time Clinical Massage Therapist.
Today, Heather continues to develop new Complementary and Alternative Medicine programs for Swedish Covenant patients. Most recently, she introduced the use of clinical massage therapy to both pre- and post-operative patients. Heather believes that this integrative blend of complementary and traditional medicines has the potential to help alleviate patients' stress and fear before surgery, as well as improve their recovery rate afterward.
